But before you get to tequila tasting and margarita making, your tour will start at Cozumel’s bustling farmers market in the heart of the city, where you’ll meet with poultry farmers, fishermen and spice vendors, taste two tacos from the market’s local food stands and pick two fresh fruits from the produce stalls for your cocktail concoctions later in the day. From here, you’ll be transported to El Cedral, a sleepy yet quaint Mayan village that was once the capital of Cozumel and is home to the oldest Mayan ruins on the island, circa 800 A.D. Spanish Conquistadors arrived in 1518, tearing down much of the temple and building a Catholic church beside it, the oldest one on the island. Walking through the center of the village, you’ll arrive at La Casita, the oldest house in Cozumel and a historically protected property that showcases Mexican traditions and costumes.
