The aerial views over Rio are breathtaking, and even the concrete skyscrapers that dominate the city’s skyline add to the attraction. As the former capital of Brazil and now its second-largest city, Rio has a remarkable architectural heritage, some of the country’s best museums and galleries, superb restaurants and a vibrant nightlife – in addition to its legendary beaches. The Sugar Loaf Mountain rises where Guanabara Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean. Its name may simply reflect a resemblance to the moulded loaves in which sugar was once commonly sold. Alternatively, it may be a corruption of the indigenous Tamoya word Pau-nh-Açuquá, meaning “high, pointed or isolated hill”. On the top of Corcoavado Mountain instead the Art Deco statue of Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer), arms outstretched in welcome, stands 30m high and weighs over 1000 tonnes. It was supposed to be completed for Brazil’s centenary independence celebrations in 1922, but wasn’t actually finished until 1931.
In clear weather, fear no anticlimax: climbing to the statue is a stunning experience, with the whole of Rio and Guanabara Bay laid out before you.

Depuis l' aéroport international Antonio Carlos Jobim (Galeão)
En voyageant en voiture, quittez l'aéroport et tournez à gauche sur Avenida Vinte de Janeiro. Puis tournez de nouveau à gauche sur Saída Aeroporto et prenez un virage serré à gauche sur Avenida Vinte de Janeiro. Gardez votre droite afin de rester sur Avenida Vinte de Janeiro puis tournez légèrement à droite sur Estrada Continuez sur Ponte do Galeão et prenez la bretelle L. Tournez à gauche sur Via Expressa Presidente João Goulart puis prenez la sortie sur la gauche en direction de Centro/Copacabana. La route rejoint Viaduto do Gasômetro. Prenez la sortie en direction de Tijuca/Tn. Rebouças. Tournez à gauche sur Via Binário do Porto pusi continuez sur Avenida Venezuela, puis Rua Sacadura Cabral et Praça Mauá. Tournez à gauche sur Avenida Rio Branco puis à droite afin de rester sur Avenida Rio Branco. Pier Mauá doit se trouver sur votre gauche. Le port est situé à environ 23km de l'aéroport, mais partez en avance car les travaux de maintenance des routes peuvent vous retarder. Des taxis, voitures privées ou bus sont disponibles afin de vous emmener de l'aéroport à Pier Mauá. Le voyage prends environ 40 minutes, en fonction du traffic.
Depuis l'aéroport Santos Dumont
En voyageant en voiture depuis l'aéroport, prenez la direction de Praça Senador Salgado Filho. Tournez à gauche afin de rester sur Praça Senador Salgado Filho puis tournez à droite en direction de Avenida Marechal Câmara et à gauche sur Avenida Marechal Câmara. Tournez à gauche sur Avenida Franklin Roosevelt et continuez ensuite sur Avenida Presidente Wilson. Tournez à droite sur Avenida Rio Branco puis encore à droite afin de rester sur Avenida Rio Branco. Pier Mauá se trouve sur votre gauche. Le port n'est qu'à 5 km de l'aéroport mais partez en avance car les travaux de maintenance des routes peuvent vous retarder. Des taxis, voitures privées ou bus sont disponibles afin de vous emmener de l'aéroport à Pier Mauá. Le trajet dure environ 10 minutes en fonction du traffic. Les transfers ne sont pas prévus sauf si réservés en avance avec MSC Croisières.
